Autumn in Auckland

There was a strange atmosphere on the weekend. That uneasy air that comes with the change of seasons. When it happens in NZ it happens dramatically. It started looking dark on Saturday morning so I thought I’d make the most of it outdoors before it rained. Glad I did since it’s been raining the last 4 days straight now.

So Saturday morning I headed out.. with my cam towards the waterfront to watch the rain come in. There weren’t many of us braving the wind out there.

(there’s actually a little boat capsizing in the background)

Then the rain came, & it came hard. Some were lucky enough to find shelter. I could not.

At home, getting out of my wet clothes I heard street performers starting up outside, so I headed straight out again. They were telling a quirky version of New Zealand settlement with a mixture of music, poetry, puppetry & dance.

Then Nik got home from work & we walked down to the liquor store we found last week to see if we could find something new to try. We found this local liqueur made from.. some native fuzzy, red flower I can’t remember the name of. We mixed it with Frangelico. Very nice.

And we found this-

A polish vodka in a ceramic bottle. The back is angled so you can wedge 6 bottles together into a circle. Pretty :) Nice vodka too.

Then we lit some candles, ate, drank & played music all night. Hopefully I’ll have some tracks to upload here soon. I really like the one we recorded that night.
